Sketch of The History of the High Constables of Edinburgh, with Notes on the Early Watching, Cleaning, and Other Police Arrangements of the City. By James D. Marwick, F.R.S.E., F.S.A. Scot., City Clerk of Edinburgh.

Printed for Private Circulation, Edinburgh. 1865 first edition. Printed by John Greig and Son, Edinburgh.

A fair, slightly tired, brown cloth hardback with blind stamped decoration and gilt armorial to front and gilt title to spine. Covers shelfworn with some discoloration. Bumped to extremities. With some give in the spine. Trimmed to top edge of half title (presumably removing previous owner's details).

Text is bright and clean throughout, but binding is weak with webbing visible near the front. Imperfect, but an uncommon publication on the history of Edinburgh law enforcement. Text block dust toned.

Text in English.
