The Merchistonian was the long-running magazine of Merchiston Castle School, Edinburgh, published for the school community, alumni, and supporters. Each volume typically compiles several issues from the academic year, combining reports on school life, sports results, academic achievements, prize lists, and alumni news, alongside literary contributions, essays, and illustrations. These volumes now provide a valuable record of late 19th and early 20th century Scottish independent school life, capturing the traditions, values, and activities of one of Scotland’s leading boys’ schools.
