Arctic Adventure is the memoir of the Danish explorer, writer and anthropologist Peter Freuchen, one of the twentieth century's best-known Arctic adventurers, celebrated for his years living in Greenland and his firsthand experiences among the Inuit. Blending exploration narrative, survival memoir and observation of Arctic life, the work captures the enduring fascination with polar adventure in the early twentieth century. This example is an authentic first issue Armed Services Edition, produced for distribution to American servicemen during the Second World War as part of the influential wartime programme of portable military paperbacks.

Arctic Adventure; My Life in the Frozen North, by Peter Freuchen.

Published by the Council on Books in Wartime, Inc, New York. Armed Services Edition. First edition thus - first impression - denoted by the code B-60 to front cover (later issue was marked as T-38). Undated, but believed to be 1943 (the author's copyright of the original text dating to 1935).

A very good softcover book with printed card wraps. These editions were designed to fit in the pocket of an American G.I. during wartime, so were compact and lightweight.

Covers are bright with some shelfwear and bumping. Text pages are generally very good with some age-toning (almost inevitable with the thin paper stock used). The first half title endpaper has a 2cm marginal edge tear.

Text in English.

480pp.

Dimensions: approx 115mm high x 164mm wide x 18mm deep.

Weight: approximately 189g (unpacked).
