The Life of John Maynard Keynes, R.F. Harrod, 1951, with multiple signed half title, and letters by Gilbert Murray and Rose Macaulay. A biography of the renowned economist.

A very interesting copy of this book, with inscription to endpaper stating "To the Founder of the Liberal International after 5 Years of Hard Labour, 15 February, 1951". This would appear to be Don Salvador de Madariaga, founder of the organisation.

There are 2 letters with the book, one from the writer, classicist, Liberal and Humanist, Gilbert Murray (taped to endpaper), and also from the writer, Rose MacCaulay (loose). Both offer their apologies to 'Harris' for being unable to attend the MacCallum Scott dinner - presumably John Hutchison MacCallum Scott, the Liberal MP and who was involved with Liberal International.

The half title is copiously inscribed with signatures of many individuals - presumably Liberal International colleagues of either Don Salvador de Madariaga, or John Hutchison MacCallum Scott.

Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. William St Clair signature and notes to first pastedown. Also with one page of his pencil annotations on the final blank, and a few pencil lines to highlight paragraphs. Please see our other listings for related works.
