A Victorian Manuscript Book of Transcribed Poetry and Verse, 1852-1898
A Victorian Manuscript Book of Transcribed Poetry and Verse, 1852-1898.
An interesting book of transcribed handwritten poetry by a variety of poets, with the writer noting the date they have transcribed the poetry, spanning a large part of the Victorian era. There are also a good number of biblical and Christian writings.
A good hardback with marbled paper over boards, with red leather spine and corners. The leather is heavily worn, scuffed and bumped and the boards scuffed and worn to extremities. Marbled endpapers with previous owner's bookplate to first free endpaper, verso. Cracked to gutter after first free endpaper.
Overall text is bright, clean and soundly bound. The opening page has been glued to the following page (it looks like to disguise the writings of a previous owner).
Sourced in Scotland.
Text in English.
The book consists of blank pages of which around 50% of the leaves have inscribed poetry. We estimate around 83 pages of manuscript, some on both sides of the leaves, and others single-sided.
Dimensions: Approximately 207mm x 170mm x 28mm.
