SKU LAN8094

The History of Tom Jones, A Changeling, by Lord Rothschild (Nathaniel Mayer Victor Rothschild). The book is a fascinating account of the legal case between Lord Rothschild and a book dealer, who sold him a first edition copy of 'A History of Tom Jones, A Foundling', by Henry Fielding (for an enormous sum), which turned out not be all it purported. Of great interest to bookseller and book collector alike.

Provenance; from the library of the late William St Clair (1937 - 2021), British historian, academic and author. No signature, but this copy comes with a handwritten compliments card from 'The author's daughter' addressed to William St Clair. This would be Emma Rothschild, honorary Professor of History and Economics at the University of Cambridge, and the card carries the University address. Please see our other listings for related works.
