A late‑18th‑century Edinburgh periodical, The Lounger (1785–1787) was a literary and moral weekly published by the authors of The Mirror, a prominent group of Scottish Enlightenment writers associated with Henry Mackenzie. Like its predecessor, it combined essays on manners, literature, and social commentary with the genteel moral tone popular in late‑Georgian periodical culture. This fifth edition of 1794, printed in both London and Edinburgh, is attractively bound in full contemporary speckled calf with gilt‑tooled spines and contrasting morocco labels.
