The National Burns, Edited by Rev. George Gilfillan, Including The Airs of All the Songs and an Original Life of Burns, by the Editor. Essentially 2 large volumes bound as one. Complete. A substantial work celebrating the writings of Robert Burns.

Published by William Mackenzie, Glasgow, London, Edinburgh. Undated, but c. 1880. 

A good hardback with black leather spine and corners. Raised bands to spine with gilt decoration and red morocco title labels. With cloth over boards, the front cover with a gilt portrait of Burns. Covers rubbed and bumped, with cloth carrying some soiling and marks. Rear cloth with considerable discoloration. Some wear to leather with some losses to spine and extremities. Soundly bound. Blank endpapers with some spotting, and some cracking to inner hinges. Marbled edges to text block.

Text is clean and bright throughout with some scattered spotting and some offsetting opposite plates. The plates are in lovely condition with just the occasional small page flaw.
