Very good hardback with brown leather spine and corners. Some rubbing and wear to leather and a little faded to spine. Raised bands and tooled gilt decoration to spine, with raised bands. Marbled paper over boards, with some rubbing.

Text block is very good overall - the first few pages have marginal damp staining and spotting. The last few pages, and prelims of volume 2 also with some spotting. The vast majority of the pages are bright and clean throughout, and the copious illustrations are well presented and without spotting or offsetting. An attractive volume.
