Two anthologies compiled from the pocket literature broadsheets distributed to military serviceman in 1915, in the early days of The Great War. The writings contained within are from a host of the great names in English literature, including; Thomas Hardy, Rudyard Kipling, Shakespeare, Charles Dickens, Henry Fielding, Tobias Smollett et al. The original broadsheets were printed on thin paper so they could be including with a letter, and were indeed sent in their hundreds of thousands.

Published by Methuen & Co. Ltd., London. A book of Broadsheets is a second edition, published in 1928, printed soon after the first printing of October 4th 1928. A Second Book of Broadsheets is a first edition from 1929. Some mild offsetting to endpapers. Previous owner's name to first free endpaper. One volume carries the namecard of a Captain Gilbert Pybus, of the 1st Battalion The Sikh Regiment (King George's Own').

A good set of two blue cloth hardbacks with gilt cover design and gilt titles to spine. With some rubbing and bumping. With a little give in the spine.

Text is bright and clean throughout, with occasional light scattered spotting. Illustrated. Occasional light scattered spotting and a few spots to edge of text block. Gilt top edge.
