A scarce first edition of Nesbit’s practical instructional work on surveying, A Complete Treatise on Practical Land-Surveying, In Six Parts (York: Thomas Wilson and Son for Longman et al., 1810). Designed primarily for school use, this treatise by A. Nesbit, Land Surveyor and mathematics teacher at Farnley near Leeds, offers comprehensive instruction in surveying techniques, reinforced with detailed illustrations and fold-out plates.

The work also includes the 'Field Book for Nesbit’s Land Surveying', bound at the rear, which was issued alongside the treatise and served as a practical companion for students and practitioners.

Anthony Nesbit (1778–1859) was an English mathematician, educator, and land surveyor. He ran schools in Farnley, Bradford, Manchester, and London, and authored multiple educational texts on mathematics, arithmetic, and practical sciences. Nesbit contributed to periodicals such as the Lady’s Diary and his works were widely used in the North of England, going through several editions during his lifetime, reflecting his influence in 19th-century mathematical education.

Printed by Thomas Wilson and Son, York; for Longman, Hurst, Rees, Orme and Brown, London; and for Wilson and Son, York. 1810 first edition. The book also includes the 'Field book for Nesbit's Land Surveying' which is bound in at the rear and was issued alongside the book (evidenced from the included Binder's instructions).

A good green cloth hardback with gilt titles to spine. A modern rebind with some rubbing and shelf wear. Soundly bound except for the title page which is detached, but present, preceded with gap to gutter.

Text is clear and legible throughout, but with age toning to pages and some scattered spotting and offsetting. Illustrated throughout in the text and with VII Plates (all present as called for).

An uncommon and desirable volume.
