Antique Bronze Statue of Deity - Lakshmi, 22.9cm high
Antique Bronze Statue of Deity - Lakshmi, 22.9cm high.
We have recently acquired a small collection of small antique Buddhist and Hindu religious statuary. These have considerable age, but are very difficult to put an exact date on them.
This statue appears to feature Lakshmi in ancient Khmer style. She stands atop a lotus pedestal base. Hands clasping a lotus blossom.
Lakshmi, the wife of Vishnu, is the Hindu Goddess of prosperity and wealth. Her four arms represent the four goals of humanity from hindu belief - dharma, artha, kama and moksha.
This statue appears to have a strong Khmer influence. Exact origin is unknown, but could be Indian or Khmer.
Provenance; Private Scottish collection.
Approximate Dimensions: 22.9cm high x 7.5cm wide x 6.5cm deep.
Weight: 706g.
Construction: Hollow lotus base, but appears solid throughout the figure.
Material: Of copper alloy, but with bronze finish.
Condition: Very good overall, but with general age-related wear. The pedestal base had numerous small holes ranging from pinpricks to around 5mm, but still structurally sound. The torso has some discoloration.
