Burmese set of 5 decorated lacquer plates, 23cm.

These mid 20th Century Burmese lacquer plates are rather splendid and make a very unusual and scarce set. They have a cinnabar base colour to the front with wonderful gold decoration. Black gloss lacquer to the rear.
3 different mythical beasts are featured.
Provenance: the property of an American diplomat, stationed in Asia in the 1950s and 60s.
