We've recently acquired a small collection of works on the French artist, Jean-Pierre Cassignneul. Please see other listings for alternative titles.

Jean-Pierre Cassigneul (b. 1935) is a celebrated French painter and lithographer, renowned for his elegant, dreamlike portraits of women, often set against lush floral or outdoor backdrops. Strongly influenced by Bonnard and the Nabis, his work blends Post-Impressionist colour with a distinctively modern sensibility. Over a long career, Cassigneul has exhibited internationally, and his paintings and original prints are widely collected for their refined, poetic style. Publications on his art remain popular, offering richly illustrated surveys of his paintings and lithographs, and serving as valuable references for collectors, dealers, and enthusiasts of modern French art.

Cassigneul; Introduction by Charles Sorlier, Preface by Jean-Francois Josselin.

Published by Editions d'Art De Francony, Nice, 1983. First edition. The book contains 3 bound-in original colour lithographs. We believe there were 250 copies produced in this form.

This 'Grand-Luxe' edition is housed in a large blue velvet clamshell box and would have originally contained 2 signed artist's proofs by Cassigneul (Passeron 271 and 275). Sadly these are no longer present. The book itself is bound in full black leather with gilt cover design and titles and with raised bands to the spine. The book is in fine, as new condition. Copiously illustrated, and clean and bright throughout. With loose insert paper guards. Book with gilt top edge and page marker ribbon.

The clamshell box is of considerable size and covered in blue velvet exterior with matching blue suede interior. The interior compartment has a blue leather book removal strap and the inside cover has a clear perspex sheet, behind which the 2 artist's proofs were once housed. The box is intact, but the exterior has soiled spotting on both sides.

Text in French, English and Japanese.
