Beautiful engraving of the David Wilkie R.A. painting, 'The Reading of A Will'. We are unfamiliar with the current location of this painting, but have seen a preparatory painting dating to 1820.
Sir David Wilkie lived from 1785-1841 and was a prominent Scottish painter, based in London. He was Principal Painter in Ordinary to King William IV and Queen Victoria.
It was engraved by John Burnet.
Published 1st June 1842. This is an early engraving and not to be confused with later reproductions.
Published by Henry Gibbs, 18 Titchborne Street, Regent Street, London.
The engraving is of wonderful quality with beautiful detail on display, with mild foxing - more noticeable on the bordering paper.
Framed under glass with hardwood (probably rosewood), and gilt surround. Large size.
Outer frame size: 70cm high x 91cm wide x 4cm deep. Hanging cord to rear.
