First published in Berlin in 1914, Die Plastik der Ägypter (The Sculpture of the Egyptians) is one of the pioneering studies of ancient Egyptian sculpture by the noted German art historian Hedwig Fechheimer. Writing at a time when Egyptology was emerging as a modern academic discipline, Fechheimer approached Egyptian art not merely as an archaeological curiosity but as a major artistic achievement worthy of serious aesthetic appreciation. Richly illustrated and informed by the latest scholarship of the period, the work examines the development, style, and symbolism of Egyptian sculpture across the dynastic ages. Issued by the distinguished Berlin publisher Bruno Cassirer on the eve of the First World War, this first edition remains an important early contribution to the study of Egyptian art and reflects the growing fascination with ancient Egypt in early twentieth-century Europe.
