Hot Pressed Doctors Outwitted; or, Who's Afraid by Hugo De La Loy (Hugh Leslie), 1808.

A very good copy of this scarce book. This is a humorous account of the author's trials and tribulations with King's College in Aberdeen. It is written under the name of Hugo De La Loy, a pseudonym of Hugh Leslie, as he reveals inside.

The book is a second edition, in that it has been published after the 1st edition published in 1807 was deemed to be libellous. All copies of the 1st edition were allegedly seized and none distributed. This book comes with an extract published in the Aberdeen Journal in 1809, detailing the legal activities surrounding its publication.

Printed in Edinburgh by J. Robertson, 1808. 320pp.

A very quirky and interesting book which contains 3 fold-out sections - The Armorial Bearings of the University of Dunstable; Plan of the Grounds in Dispute; a facsimile letter from the Sheriff Clerk's Office.

The book has been professionally rebound (in a style not disimilar to its original binding) - Cover is in fine condition; paper over boards. Endpapers have been replaced. Book is very good overall. Pages at the beginning and end have some foxing and there is age discoloration to extremities throughout, but really a very good copy of this uncommon publication. An attractive binding.

Dimensions: 232mm high x 142mm wide x 35mm deep.
