$645.00
SKU LAN5355

Facsimiles of National Manuscripts of Scotland selected under the direction of Sir William Gibson Craig and photozincographed by command of Her Majesty Queen Victoria by Colonel Sir Henry James. Complete in 3 Volumes.

1st edition. Published by The Lords Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury, Ordnance Survey Office, the first volume being published in 1867. Southampton.

3 huge elephant folio volumes, each approximately 567mm x 420mm. Due to size, this set is usually found in distressed, disbound condition, but these examples remain bound. The spines however are largely missing with remaining traces of the leather binding to spine with gilt. Gilt upper edge of text block. Blue cloth with gilt covers.

Covers are worn, bumped and substantially marked as shown in the photographs. Interior text is generally very good - some foxing, particularly to earlier and latter pages, but the bulk of the text is nice and clean with only occasional marks.

These impressive volumes contain meticulous copies of documents covering all major events in Scottish history. A very important set of Scotland's historical documents, which does of course contain the Declaration of Arbroath from 1320, seen by many as Scotland's declaration of independence, now passed its 700th anniversary.
