A very good copy of R.M. Lockley's biography of Gilbert White (1720-1793), a pioneering English naturalist and man of the Church. He was highly respected, and an influential figure in the way he studied living creatures in their environment, and noting the seasonal changes throughout the year. His work on Selborne has been in continuous print, in a multitude of different editions, since its first publication in 1789.

A very good green cloth hardback with printed gold title label to spine. With light wear. Housed in a good original dustjacket in removable clear protective plastic. Jacket with age spotting and soiling to rear cover, with 2cm closed tear to top rear, and wear to extremities. Not price clipped. Light offsetting to endpapers. Soundly bound.
Text is bright and clean throughout. With portrait frontispiece.
