SOLD
No. 42 from the Tokaido series 'Pictures of the Famous Places on the Fifty-three Stations', depicting men and women gathered under a torii on the shore against a backdrop of the sea, bustling with boat traffic. Dimensions: 34cm high x 22cm wide. Vertical oban - known as the Vertical or Tate-e Tokaido.
Framed - 50cm long x 35cm wide. Frame backing carries M. Nakazawa, Tokyo dealer's label, who cites 1855 as the printing date. This corresponds acurately with the date seal and aratame censor seal which date the print to Month VII, 1855. Published by Tsutaya Kichizo.
A beautiful print, though the front mount currently in place (and not affixed to the print) needs replacing to do the print justice as it is faded and marked.
