Point Counter Point, Aldous Huxley, Garden City Publishing, New York, 1940
First published in 1928, Point Counter Point is Aldous Huxley's fourth novel and one of his most ambitious works. Structured around the idea of musical counterpoint, it interweaves the lives, arguments and philosophies of a large cast of characters, creating a sharp satirical portrait of English intellectual and social life between the wars. Often regarded as a lightly disguised portrait of the literary and intellectual circles of 1920s London, the novel draws on a number of Huxley's contemporaries, presenting fictional characters inspired by real people.
