Private Faces, by Hilda Hughes, 1st edition, 1948
Private Faces, by Hilda Hughes.
Published by Hilda Devereux Limited, Oxford, 1st edition, 1948. The book is a fictional account of an attempt to establish a Repertory Theatre in a provincial city - the author worked as a theatre critic as part of her journalistic carer in Oxford. The book was published shortly after her death - we would think it possible that the publisher of the book was effectively her own family due to the similarity of the name. An uncommon publication, especially with intact dustjacket. Only 8 copies found in Worldcat.
A very good blue cloth hardback with gilt title to spine. Some minor crinkling to the cloth in a few places. The dustjacket is good - intact, but with some minor soiling and losses to extremities. Text is clean and bright throughout. Soundly bound.
