This smart 3 volume set is by William Carnie, a leading Aberdeen journalist, and presents a kind of history of Aberdeen and surrounds during the second half of the 19th Century. The subject matter is many and varied, and presented in an entertaining fashion.

The first 2 volumes with guarded portrait frontsipieces.
Published by The Aberdeen University Press Limited, 1902. First edition. Subscribers edition. This would have been a produced in only limited numbers. The end of Volume 3 includes the Subscribers list of approximately 236 persons - possibly suggestion a print run of 250 copies. A scarce original printing - Worldcat list 13 institutional holdings.
Vol 2 was published later in 1904, and Vol. 3 in 1906.
This particular copy is inscribed by the author and dedicated to a 'Mr Wm. Cadenhead', who is featured in the subscriber's list. The author has also corrected the word 'he' to 'I' on p. vi of the Preface, in pencil.
A very good set of 3 cloth bound hardbacks, bound in an ivory coloured cloth with gilt decoration and titles. The colour creates a vellum-like appearance. Covers with a few marks and crinkles, some wear to head and tail of spines, and two black spots to spine of Vol 2. The gilt is a little faded. There appear to be have been 2 bindings for this book - this clearly being the more 'deluxe' version fo the two, and the other in a plain olive cloth.
Light spotting to endpapers, with text being bright and clean throughout. With gilt top edge with some soiling, and rough cut to other edges. Some light spotting to text block edges.
