A striking collection of traditional French children's songs and singing games, Vieilles Éternelles Rondes et Chansons was produced by the celebrated Imagerie d'Épinal firm of Pellerin & Cie, whose brightly coloured popular prints became synonymous with the town of Épinal. Each song is presented with its musical notation and lyrics surrounded by bold colour illustrations in the distinctive style of late nineteenth-century French popular printing. The imagery ranges from charming scenes of childhood and domestic life to the more robust, sometimes surprisingly macabre humour characteristic of traditional nursery songs and popular imagery of the period. Published in large folio format, the volume provides an appealing example of the celebrated Épinal tradition applied to children's music and folklore.

A good (minus) folio sized hardback with colour printed paper over boards. Covers worn, scuffed and rubbed. Linen spine is worn. Cracked at inner hinges. All bound, but a little fragile.
