A German publication on the work of Tōshūsai Sharaku, Japanese ukiyo-e print designer, particularly known for his portraits of kabuki actors. He is a particularly interesting artist, active only from 1794-95, with little known about his true identity. His energetic work, which also featured less flattering details of his subjects, proved not be to the public taste at the time. His work is however much admired now and heavily desired by collectors - just over 600 original prints of his 140+ works are known to survive.
