An uncommon first edition of this collection of essays and descriptive sketches by John M'Diarmid (1790-1852), Scottish journalist, author and editor of the Dumfries and Galloway Standard. Drawing upon observations of rural life, nature, local characters and everyday experiences, the work combines humour, social commentary and reflections on Scottish manners and customs. Written in an engaging and accessible style, Sketches from Nature offers an interesting glimpse into provincial Scottish society during the early nineteenth century.
