Songs of Scotland. Edited by Wilma Paterson and Illustrated by Alasdair Gray, 1996. Scarce withdrawn first impression.

Songs of Scotland; a hundred of the Best, Chosen and Edited with Musical Accompaniment and Notes biographical and Historical by Wilma Paterson designed and decorated by Alasdair Gray.

Published by Mainstream Publishing, Edinburgh 1996. First edition, first impression. When first printed, errors were discovered at the print stage and most copies were withdrawn and pulped, but with a few still escaping into the wild. The first impression is identifiable by the blue and yellow endpapers and has the titles of four of the songs mixed up. This is supported with a photocopy of a letter to a previous owner from Morag McAlpine, Alasdair's wife and sometime publisher.

A fine blue cloth hardback with an elaborate (and beautiful) silver metallic stamped design. With a fine dustjacket (now housed in protective, removable, clear plastic).

Text is lovely and clean and the book is beautifully designed and illustrated.
