First published between 1954 and 1955, The Lord of the Rings is Tolkien's epic high-fantasy masterpiece and one of the most influential works of modern literature. Set in the richly imagined world of Middle-earth, the trilogy follows Frodo Baggins and the Fellowship on their perilous quest to destroy the One Ring and defeat the Dark Lord Sauron. All three volumes in good red cloth bindings, each with its original fold-out map at the rear. The books are all soundly bound. The books with light bumping to corners and head and tail of spines. With light shelf wear. The Two Towers with a slight jacket adhesion to the top edge of head of spine.

All three volumes with their original third impression dustjackets. The jackets are only in fair condition - all price-clipped to inside flap, largely intact with worn extremities and tubbed joints, some nibbles and losses to extremities. Front cover images generally very good, but spines are marked and rear covers with discolored areas. The Fellowship of the Ring jacket is missing the top 3cm at the head of spine and has a repair to rear.

The jackets now housed in removable, clear protective plastic.

Previous owner's gift inscription - dated to Christmas 1968, on first free blank endpaper in Fellowship of the King.

Text is bright and clean throughout in all volumes, with mild age-toning.

Maps in the first two volumes are both very good. The map in the Return to the King volume has damage - some tears and small holes which have had archival tape repairs to the rear.

A great opportunity to get on the Lord of the Rings collecting ladder for one of the most popular works ever published.
