Published by Boussod, Valadon et Cie, Editeurs, Paris, 1885-1889. First edition.
A very impressive volume of considerable size – 48.5cm (19 inches) high, and weighing over 7.5kg (16.6lbs), which is comprised of three quarters red leather covers with marbled paper over boards. Raised bands to spine with gilt lettering. Some bumping and wear, and scuffing and scratching to the boards.
Feathered marbling to endpapers, with previous owner's bookplates, which are also found on a front blank. The inner joint has been professionally strengthened resulting in a secure binding.
The opening pages are a bit frayed to edges with some age toning. The pages which follow are nice and clean and the book's profuse illustrations provide for a very impressive book. The colour plates are beautifully produced. A very good copy.
Text in French.
